Small-Group Food Tour of Viana do Castelo: Docks to Old Town

4 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Come hungry — this is lunch.

A four-hour walking food tour from the fishing docks to the historic heart of Viana do Castelo, guided personally by João. Born here and a former professional cook, he doesn't just show you where to eat — he tells you how each dish is made, and introduces you to the people behind the counters.

We start facing the ocean with something sweet, then walk the docks before the eating really begins: fresh shellfish at a working seafood shop, the best petiscos at a fishermen's tasco in the Ribeira, and two historic family bakeries for the sweet finish. Eight to ten tastings in total, paired with three regional wines including Vinho Verde — and the story of the city all the way through.

Small groups of eight maximum. Easy, flat walking — 1.5 km spread over four hours. You'll leave with a Google Maps list of João's own recommendations for the rest of your stay.
