You are in front of the tourist information center of Gjirokastër, located in the Çerçiz Topulli square, where you can buy your ticket to visit the Cold War tunnel and join a guided tour.
You will find yourself in Çerçiz Topulli Square, one of the busiest places in Gjirokastër.
Here you are in Qafa e Pazarit, the heart of the old bazaar of Gjirokastër. The name literally means “the Bazaar Pass”, a key passage located just under the castle walls and in the center of the old town classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The stairs you see there allow you to climb to the unmissable castle of Gjirokastër.
Here, two elements deserve your attention. On your right stands Xhamia e Teqes, the “Teqe Mosque”.
Turn your head to the left again: you notice here a sculpture representing the bust of Muzafer Asqeri.
The beautiful building on your left is known locally as the Kinema Gjirokastra, an ancient cinema that tells a recent but very telling part of the city’s history.
You are in front of the Angonate House, one of the most emblematic historic homes in Gjirokastër and the largest old residential complex still visible in the city.

Here you are in front of the house-museum dedicated to the most famous Albanian writer, born here in Gjirokastër in 1936, in the historic district of Palorto.

Along this road, you have a beautiful view of the modern part of Gjirokastër, with its newer neighborhoods that extend into the plain at the foot of the historic city.
