Itinerary

Duration: 4 hours (approximately)
  • 1
    Tangier

Stop 1: Grand Socco & the market (30 min) We start where the city does its shopping. Olives, spices, fresh herbs, preserved lemons, the herborist with his arganier and his ras el hanout. This is where I explain what we're about to eat and why Tangier food is its own thing. Stop 2: The medina, souks and food stops (about 3 hours) We walk down through the narrow streets, stopping to eat as we go. Calentita, msemen or sfenj fresh off the pan, grilled sardines, bread and cheese, mint tea, Moroccan sweets. Five or six tastings, all from vendors I know personally. We finish with a full Moroccan meal sat down in a small family restaurant, the kind of food a Tangier family eats at home. Stop 3: The Kasbah & Petit Socco (30 min) Up to the highest point of the medina for the view across the Strait of Gibraltar to the Spanish coast, then down through Petit Socco, the old café square at the heart of the old town, where I tell you the history of the place.
