We start with one of the most beautiful capitals of the Canary Islands. You will walk down Calle Real, between stately houses and cobbled streets, to the Plaza de España, with the Church of El Salvador and the Renaissance Town Hall. You will also see the famous wooden balconies of Avenida Marítima and the Barco de la Virgen, a replica of the Santa María de Colón. Here you can see the wealth that La Palma had when it was one of the great ports of the Spanish Empire.
We went up to the most important temple in La Palma, where the island's patroness is venerated. It is a quiet corner, surrounded by greenery, with much history and devotion. Every five years the Virgin comes down in procession to Santa Cruz in the Bajada de la Virgen, the island's biggest festival.
A landscape that looks like another planet: a blanket of black volcanic sand dotted with Canary pines, with the Cumbre Vieja in the background. It is the perfect place to understand the volcanic power of La Palma and take some of the best photos of the day.
This is the most impactful moment of the day. The Tajogaite erupted in September 2021 and was active for 85 days. From here you will see the youngest volcanic cone in Spain and the lava flows that covered more than 1,200 hectares. The guide will tell you how the eruption was experienced, what changed on the island, and how it is recovering. It's one of those things you have to see with your own eyes.
