The Tikveš wine region is about 90 minutes south of Skopje. This full day trip takes in a guided tasting at Chateau Sopot near Veles, entry to the Roman ruins of Stobi at the crossing of the Vardar, and a long Macedonian lunch with the estate's own wines at Royal Winery Queen Maria in Demir Kapija, a winery founded in 1928 and named after Queen Marija. Tikveš is the biggest wine region in North Macedonia, and the tasting, the entry and the lunch are all in the price, so nothing poured on the day carries a charge. Departures run every Wednesday at 09:30 from the meeting point across the old "Bristol" hotel and return to the same point in the early evening. Group size starts from two people.

    Chateau Sopot is a working winery near Veles in the Tikveš wine region, the largest wine growing area in North Macedonia. A sommelier leads a guided wine tasting at the estate with the vineyards in view, sampling wines produced on site. The stop lasts about 1 hour and admission is included in your tour price.

    Stobi is an ancient city at the crossing of the Vardar river, once a major Roman settlement. Your guide leads a walking tour through the site, taking in the Roman theatre and the preserved floor mosaics. The ground is uneven ancient surface with very little shade, so wear comfortable shoes. The stop lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes and admission is included.

    Royal Winery Queen Maria

    Royal Winery Queen Maria is an estate at Demir Kapija, under the Demir Kapija gorge, founded in 1928 and named after Queen Marija. This is the long stop of the day, a full three-course traditional Macedonian lunch served with the estate's own wines. The stop lasts about 2 hours 30 minutes, and the meal, wine and admission are all included in your tour price.
