Built in 1890 as a retreat for Prince Komatsu Akihito, uncle to Emperor Meiji, it is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. While most imperial properties are open only for viewing, Taian invites you inside to enjoy seasonal sweets and matcha prepared with Mt. Fuji’s spring water, watch traditional tea preparation, whisk your own bowl with expert guidance, and photograph the serene garden views. With small groups, this experience offers a personal encounter with Japanese tea culture in a timeless setting.
