As an expansion of the old Common Burying Ground beginning in 1836, Island Cemetery contains many unusual gravestones, monuments and family vaults. as the final resting place for many of Newport's residents. The cemetery is also home to several architecturally significant buildings, such as 1902 Main Office and the 1886 August Belmont Memorial Chapel
