Whale Watching Tour with Marine Biologist in Puerto Vallarta

4 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English and 1 more

This isn't your average whale watching boat ride — we've got a marine biologist on board every single trip, not just a guide reading off a script. She's there to break down what's actually happening in front of you: why that mama whale won't leave her calf's side, what it means when they breach, or how far they swam to get here.

It's also just... chill. Breakfast or lunch, snacks, drinks — all included, so you can actually kick back instead of stressing about the details. And on some trips, you might get to hear the whales singing underwater through the hydrophone, which honestly not many tours around here even have.

Throw in a good shot at spotting dolphins, turtles, or manta rays on the way back, and you've got a whale watching trip that's fun, laid-back, and actually teaches you something.

What to expect

Travelers will meet the crew at the Puerto Vallarta Maritime Terminal and board a comfortable boat for a cruise through Banderas Bay. As you sail out, a marine biologist will introduce the day's route and share background on the humpback whales that migrate to these waters each season.

Once whales are spotted, the captain will slow the boat and position it at a safe, respectful distance so travelers can observe and photograph natural behaviors like breaches and tail slaps. The marine biologist will narrate what's happening in real time, explaining behaviors, migration patterns, and family dynamics as they unfold.

Travelers will enjoy a continental breakfast or lunch on board, depending on their departure time, along with snacks and soft drinks throughout the tour. On select departures, guests may also have the chance to listen to whale songs through an onboard hydrophone, subject to availability.

On the return trip, travelers can relax on deck and watch for dolphins, sea turtles, and manta rays before disembarking back at the Maritime Terminal.
