Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine is located in Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture. Along the approach path lined with nearly 100 lanterns, climbing step by step feels like entering a fantastical and mysterious world. The shrine is also renowned as a setting for the famous manga works "Hotarubi no Mori e" and "Natsume's Book of Friends," attracting many visitors from around the world.
Amanoiwato Shrine, renowned for the practice of stacking stones to make wishes at Amanoyasugawara, is located in Takachiho Town, Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture. The shrine enshrines the celestial rock cave (Amanoiwato) believed to be inhabited by a deity. It is famous as a sacred site possessing immense energy for healing the body and mind, as well as for bringing good fortune and elevating one's luck. A continuous stream of worshippers visits the shrine to receive goshuin (stamp seals) and omamori (charms), seeking divine protection.
It is said that stacking stones here while making a wish will make it come true, so many people who come to pray have built numerous stone towers of wishes.
Takachiho Gorge is a ravine formed by volcanic eruptions of Mount Aso in ancient times. It is characterized by cliffs on both sides and features the 17-meter-high Manai Waterfall. Along with the breathtaking scenery, the three bridges spanning the same gorge also add to the beauty of Takachiho Gorge.
