The Caldeiras das Furnas are one of the main manifestations of active volcanism on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores. Here you can observe fumarolas, mud boilers and springs of mineral water, as well as the traditional method of making the famous furna cooked, prepared slowly in the natural heat of the earth. The Miradouro do Pico do Ferro offers one of the most iconic views of the Vale das Furnas and the Lagoa das Furnas on the island of São Miguel. The Gorreana Tea Factory, located on the north coast of the island of São Miguel, is the oldest tea plantation in Europe still operating. Founded in 1883, it retains traditional production methods and can be visited for free. Surrounded by extensive tea fields, it offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the manufacturing process and explore pedestrian trails in a unique natural setting.
