Tesshu-ji Temple – A Sacred Legacy of the Tokugawa Clan Tesshu-ji Temple proudly bears the Tokugawa family crest, the "Mitsuba Aoi" — a rare symbol of the legendary shogunate dynasty that ruled Japan for over 260 years. Enshrined within is a Thousand-Armed Kannon with over 800 years of history. Experience Zazen — the ancient Zen practice of seated meditation — before a Bodhisattva with over 1,000 years of history. You will also join a short sutra chanting experience, enjoying a peaceful moment in the sacred atmosphere of the temple. Then, ring the temple's historic bell — one that survived WWII thanks to its Tokugawa heritage. As its pure tone drifts toward Mount Fuji, history and spirituality unite in one unforgettable moment. Finally, receive your own Goshuin — a hand-written sacred seal created just for you. Your name can also be written in original Japanese kanji, such as “Linda” becoming “倫陀” or “Rob” becoming “呂布,” creating a personal keepsake from Tesshu-ji.
