What to expect
1. Welcome tea, snack & caligraphy
Meet Yayoi. You'll enjoy a welcome sweet and tea, followed by a simple brush-and-ink calligraphy experience.
2. A tea room entrance ritual
You will purify your hands and mouth, then enter through the tea room’s small traditional entrance.
3. Introduction to the tea ceremony
We introduce the history of the tea ceremony and the tea room.
4. Watching the tea ceremony
You will watch a traditional tea-making demonstration, called temae.
5. Learning matcha etiquette
You will learn the proper etiquette for drinking matcha and the basics of preparing it.
6. Making and enjoying matcha
You will choose your favorite tea bowl, prepare matcha yourself and enjoy it with traditional Japanese sweets.
