What to expect

Step into an intimate Ceylon tea experience in Colombo, guided by a master tea taster with over 40 years of expertise. Hosted in a quiet atelier near Gangaramaya Temple, this small-group session offers a deeper, hands-on understanding of tea beyond typical factory tours.

Begin with the story of Ceylon tea, from James Taylor’s first planting in 1867 to how elevation, climate, and terroir shape its unique character. You’ll then explore tea grading by examining and comparing leaves such as BOPF, Orange Pekoe, and Pekoe, learning how professionals assess quality through appearance and texture.

The highlight is a guided tasting of up to 16 freshly brewed teas using professional cupping techniques. You’ll actively practise evaluating colour, clarity, aroma, body, and finish while identifying flavour notes like malty, floral, fruity, and brisk.

The experience also includes speciality teas, natural infusions, and practical brewing techniques for home. It concludes with a relaxed Q&A, offering personalised advice on tea selection, storage, and preparation. Ideal for travellers, couples, and tea enthusiasts seeking authentic Sri Lankan tea knowledge and a meaningful cultural experience.
