Discover Sukkertoppen, one of the most emblematic mountains in Ålesund, on a guided small group hike.

We will meet in the center of Ålesund and take a public bus to Hessa island. The ride is included and will allow us to get around like the local residents before starting the hike.

From the start of the trail we will ascend through varied terrain, with wooded areas and stretches of open rock. As we gain altitude, we will enjoy views over Ålesund, the archipelago, and the coast.

At the top of Sukkertoppen, 314 meters above sea level, we will enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Ålesund, the islands, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Sunnmøre Alps. We will have time to enjoy the landscape and take photographs with the local guide.

After descending, we will take the same path and take the bus back to the center of Ålesund. Normal physical condition and appropriate footwear for walking is required.

What's Included

Round-trip public bus ticket between the center of Ålesund and Hessa, included in the experience price.
Food and drinks are not included during the excursion. We recommend bringing water and, if you wish, a small snack for the hike.

What to expect

We will ascend on foot to the summit of Sukkertoppen, at 314 meters above sea level, following a mountain trail with wooded sections and open rock areas. During the ascent, we will enjoy increasingly wider views of Ålesund and the archipelago. At the top we will have time to enjoy the 360° panorama of Ålesund, the islands, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Sunnmøre Alps, in addition to taking photographs. Afterward we will begin the descent down the same path.

* The Sukkertoppen mountain suffered a large fire in March 2026. The current state can be observed in the photographs taken in September 2026.
