Arrival in Cairo Meet your guide at Cairo Airport and transfer to your hotel. Settle in and enjoy a welcome dinner.
Giza Pyramids and Sphinx. Stand at the base of the last surviving wonder of the ancient world. The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure on Earth for nearly 4,000 years. Your guide explains how and why it was built, and you will have time for the photos everyone comes to Egypt for.
Walk through the world’s largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization. Tutankhamun’s treasures are a highlight, and your guide helps you focus on the pieces that matter most.
Virgin Mary’s Tree, Matareya. Visit the sycamore that tradition links to the Holy Family’s rest during their flight into Egypt. Pilgrims from around the world come to sit in the quiet garden.
Abu Serga Church (St. Sergius). Descend into the crypt, which Coptic tradition holds as a place where the Holy Family sheltered. It is one of the oldest churches in Egypt and a powerful place to pray. The Hanging Church. Admire a church built above the passage of an ancient Roman fortress, with a carved wooden ceiling and centuries-old icons.
Maadi Church (Virgin Mary Church). Stand on the Nile bank where, according to tradition, the Holy Family boarded a boat to travel south. It connects the story to the river you will cruise later in the trip.
Tel Basta and Belbeis. Follow the trail into the Nile Delta, where tradition places the well at Tel Basta and a rest at Belbeis. These stops are off the main tourist path, so you see them without crowds. Discover Tell Basta, where ancient Egyptian history meets a profound biblical wonder. Once a majestic city of temples, this sacred ground became a vital stop on the Holy Family’s Journey in Egypt. Tradition holds that as the infant Jesus entered, towering stone idols miraculously crumbled, and a fresh-water well sprang to life to quench the family's thirst. Today, you can stand by that very same miraculous well and walk among ruins where faith and history beautifully intertwined. It is a captivating crossroad of miracles you truly have to experience in person.
Sakha and Samanoud (time permitting). Visit churches tied to the Holy Family’s journey and to local saints, in a quiet and spiritual setting.
Desert monasteries. Visit working Coptic monasteries founded in the early centuries of Christianity, where monks still live and pray. Few Egypt tours include them, so it feels like meeting living faith rather than visiting a museum.
Fly from Cairo to Aswan. Philae Temple. Cross the water by boat to a temple of the goddess Isis, set on an island. The whole complex was moved stone by stone to save it from flooding, and it is one of the most scenic sites in Egypt.
The Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan is the largest known ancient obelisk in the world and offers a fascinating look into ancient Egyptian engineering. Ordered by Queen Hatshepsut during the New Kingdom, this massive monument was carved directly into the solid granite bedrock. If completed, it would have stood around 42 meters (137 feet) tall and weighed nearly 1,200 tons! However, a massive crack appeared in the stone during the carving process, forcing the ancient masons to abandon the project. While it was a failure for them, it became an invaluable treasure for us; it serves as a giant, open-air textbook showing exactly how ancient Egyptians quarried stone using wooden wedges, water, and diorite pounding balls. Today, it is a protected UNESCO World Heritage site and a must-visit open-air museum in Aswan.
Abu Simbel. Early in the morning, visit Ramses II’s colossal temples carved into a cliff, along with the smaller temple dedicated to his wife Nefertari. The temples were cut into blocks and lifted to higher ground when Lake Nasser rose, and the four giant statues at the entrance are unforgettable in the morning light. Return and re-board the ship by about 2 p.m., then sail to Kom Ombo.
Kom Ombo Temple. Explore a double temple on the river bank, with two sets of shrines side by side. Look for the crocodile mummies and the carvings of ancient medical tools.
Walk through one of Egypt’s best-preserved temples, dedicated to the falcon god Horus. Its towering gateway shows how ancient temples really looked. Sail through the Esna lock toward Luxor.
Visit a temple in the middle of the city, beautifully lit in the evening, with an avenue of sphinxes that once led all the way to Karnak.
Float over the Nile, green farmland, and the temples of the West Bank as the sun rises. It is quiet, scenic, and a highlight for photos. The flight depends on weather.
Enter royal tombs cut into the desert cliffs, with painted walls still bright after thousands of years.
See the terraced temple of one of Egypt’s few female pharaohs, set dramatically against the cliffs.
