Airport Pick-up: Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall holding a sign with the lead traveler's name.
Hotel/Lodge Pick-up: Your driver will meet you at the main reception or entrance of your hotel or lodge at the scheduled pick-up time.

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by a Sunrise Expedition driver and transferred to Chanya Lodge in Moshi. Here, you can relax after your journey and prepare for the adventure ahead. In the evening, you will meet a member of our experienced mountain team for a personal pre-climb briefing. During this session, you will receive important information about the trek, safety procedures, and equipment requirements. We will also review your gear together and assist with any equipment that may still be needed. Overnight accommodation is at Chanya Lodge.
Altitude: 1,860 m to 2,720 m Hiking Time: approx. 3-4 hours Distance: approx. 8 km Vegetation Zone: Rainforest After breakfast at Chanya Lodge, you will be transferred to the Marangu Gate (1,860 m), where you will register and begin your trek. The trail winds through lush montane rainforest, offering beautiful scenery and the chance to spot wildlife such as colobus monkeys and birds. Your destination is Mandara Hut (2,720 m), where you will enjoy dinner and spend your first night on the mountain in comfortable A-frame huts.
Altitude: 2,720 m to 3,720 m Hiking Time: approx. 5-7 hours Distance: approx. 12 km Vegetation Zone: Rainforest to Moorland After breakfast, you leave Mandara Hut and trek through the moorland zone with its distinctive giant heathers and senecio plants. The path offers spectacular views of Mount Meru and the surrounding plains on clear days. You ascend steadily to Horombo Hut (3,720 m), a large camp with comfortable A-frame huts. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Altitude: 3,720 m (rest day) Hiking Time: optional short acclimatization walk Vegetation Zone: Moorland Today is a crucial rest and acclimatization day at Horombo Hut (3,720 m). This extra day significantly increases your chances of reaching the summit. You can take an optional short walk to nearby viewpoints to aid acclimatization. Our mountain crew will monitor your health and oxygen levels. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided at Horombo Hut. Overnight at Horombo Hut.
Altitude: 3,720 m to 4,700 m Hiking Time: approx. 5-6 hours Distance: approx. 10 km Vegetation Zone: Alpine Desert After breakfast, you depart Horombo Hut and trek through the increasingly barren alpine desert. The vegetation becomes sparse as you gain altitude, with stunning panoramic views across the clouds below. You arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700 m), the base camp for the summit attempt. Here you rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare your gear for the midnight summit push. Overnight at Kibo Hut.
Altitude: 4,700 m to 5,895 m and descent to 3,720 m Hiking Time: approx. 12-16 hours total Distance: approx. 21 km Vegetation Zone: Arctic This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek. You begin your summit attempt around midnight, hiking in the dark under starlit skies toward Gillman's Point (5,685 m) on the crater rim, then continuing along the rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking in the breathtaking views over the ice fields and glaciers, you descend all the way back to Horombo Hut (3,720 m) for a well-deserved rest. Overnight at Horombo Hut.
Altitude: 3,720 m to 1,860 m Hiking Time: approx. 4-6 hours Distance: approx. 20 km Vegetation Zone: Moorland to Rainforest After breakfast at Horombo Hut, you begin your final descent through the moorland and back into the rainforest zone toward Marangu Gate (1,860 m). Upon arrival at the gate, you receive your summit certificate and enjoy a celebratory meal. Your driver will transfer you back to Chanya Lodge in Moshi for a hot shower and rest. From Moshi, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight, or spend an additional night at Chanya Lodge (bookable separately).
After breakfast, and according to your onward travel plans, an African Sunrise Expedition driver will transfer you from Chanya Lodge to your next destination, whether that is Kilimanjaro International Airport, Arusha, a safari, Zanzibar, or another location. Before your departure, our team will personally say goodbye and assist with any final questions or arrangements. With unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure, you will continue your journey through Tanzania or begin your trip home.
