The Aurora Hunting Tour is designed to maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights. Instead of staying in one place, we search for clear skies by car, moving through the Lapland wilderness to find the best viewing locations.
We follow cloud forecasts and aurora forecasts before and during the tour. This flexible approach allows us to travel to areas with open sky and better conditions. In the Ivalo region, Northern Lights are visible on about 5 out of 7 nights when the sky is clear, making it one of the best places in the world for aurora viewing.
During the tour we visit quiet locations far from light pollution where the Arctic sky can be experienced at its best. Because we are mobile, we can often reach clearer skies within a few hours.
Every night in the Arctic is different, which makes each aurora hunting experience unique. The goal is simple: find clear sky and give you the best chance to witness the magic of the Northern Lights.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
Pickup usually takes place slightly before or shortly after the official start time, depending on your location. Travelers staying in Inari can also be picked up if our route goes north. In this case, the estimated pickup time in Inari is around 20:30–20:40. Please inform us of your pickup location in advance so we can schedule the start of the tour smoothly. Exact pickup time will be confirmed on the day of the tour.
The meeting point is in the parking area of K-Market Ivalo, Petsamontie 5, 99800 Ivalo, Finland. Please arrive 5–10 minutes before the tour starts so the departure can run smoothly. Your guide will arrive with a black minibus with the Arctic Guides logo.
What to expect
We follow both cloud forecasts and aurora forecasts to maximize the chances of seeing the Northern Lights. The main goal during the tour is to find clear skies, as this is the most important factor for seeing the aurora.
During the tour we stop at scenic locations where you can enjoy the Arctic night and look for the Northern Lights. If needed, we have warm jackets available, and you can always warm up inside the vehicle.
The tour lasts about 4 hours. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed, but in Ivalo they are visible on average about 5 out of 7 clear nights.
If weather conditions appear hopeless due to heavy cloud cover, we will inform you no later than 3 hours before the tour. You can then choose to reschedule, cancel, or still join the tour. If we go out, we will always do the best to find clear skies.

- Please note that this is a late evening activity. We generally recommend the tour for travelers aged 12 and older.
