This unique opportunity brings you to historic locations designated with Rhode Island Slave History Medallion (RISHM) markers and other local landmarks. Your RISHM tour guide will introduce you to early Black Americans, their contributions, acts of resistance, and struggles for freedom that shaped not only Newport but the nation.

Trinity Church, on Queen Anne Square in Newport, Rhode Island, is a historic parish church in the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island. Founded in 1698, it is the oldest Episcopal parish in the state. It is a National Historic Landmark, built 1725-26.
Vernon House is the only house in Newport, built, improved, and maintained with profits of the slave trade. Over 40 African slave-trading voyages were financed by the Vernon brothers. A National Landmark. (Tour outside only)
