This 3-day trek offers the most immersive way to experience Gunung Leuser National Park, home to one of the last wild populations of Sumatran orangutans on Earth.
Spending two nights deep in the rainforest gives you significantly more time and a higher chance of meaningful wildlife encounters, including orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, white-handed gibbons, macaques, and hornbills.
Groups are kept small with a maximum of 6 travelers, led by certified local guides native to the community with 5+ years of jungle experience and deep knowledge of the ecosystem, medicinal plants, and local traditions.
All National Park permits, camping equipment, fresh meals, drinking water, tropical fruits, and a river tubing ride back to the village are fully included. Two nights at peaceful riverside campsites let you truly disconnect and wake up surrounded by nature.

Your driver will pick you up directly from your hotel or guesthouse in Bukit Lawang village. If you are arriving from Medan, your driver will meet you at the agreed pickup location with a sign displaying the lead traveler's name. Please make sure to provide your accommodation address and contact number upon booking so we can confirm your exact pickup point and time.
Your guide will pick you up or drop you off directly at the meeting point. If you have any difficulties, your team will be happy to assist you.

1Gunung Leuser National Park
Trek into the heart of Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the most biodiverse rainforests in the world. Your certified local guide leads you through jungle trails while searching for wild Sumatran orangutans, Thomas's leaf monkeys, gibbons, and tropical birds. Along the way, learn about the rainforest ecosystem, wildlife behavior, and medicinal plants used by local communities for generations. Around midday, enjoy a refreshing break with fresh tropical fruits prepared by your guide. Continue trekking until you reach your first riverside campsite, where you can relax and swim in the river. In the evening, your guide prepares a delicious traditional jungle dinner over an open fire. Spend the night camping under the jungle canopy, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

2Gunung Leuser National Park
Continue deeper into Gunung Leuser National Park, reaching areas rarely visited by tourists where the jungle feels more wild and untouched. This part of the trek offers excellent opportunities to spot Thomas leaf monkeys, white-handed gibbons, hornbills, and other tropical wildlife. Your guide explains how local communities use jungle plants for food and traditional medicine. Around midday, stop for lunch and fresh fruits before continuing your trek through the rainforest. In the afternoon, arrive at your second riverside campsite where you can relax, swim, and enjoy the peaceful jungle atmosphere. Your guide prepares dinner as you spend your second night camping deep in the heart of Sumatra.

3Gunung Leuser National Park
After breakfast, enjoy a short morning trek through the rainforest with more chances to spot wildlife. Then make your way to the Bahorok River to begin the most exciting part of the journey: river tubing. Sit on large rubber tubes tied together and float downstream through stunning jungle scenery, with lush rainforest lining both sides of the river. This relaxing yet thrilling activity is one of the most memorable highlights of the entire trek. The river tubing finishes back in Bukit Lawang village around 12:00 to 01:00 PM, near your accommodation.
