    Pastéis de Belém

Pastéis de Belém are one of the biggest references of Portuguese gastronomy and a must-stop in Lisbon. Created in 1837, they are made according to a secret conventual recipe originating from the neighboring Jerónimos Monastery, which remains guarded in the mythical "Secret Workshop." Hot served, sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar, they are distinguished from common custard tarts by their exceptionally thin, crispy puff pastry and unique creamy filling.
