Cycle the gorgeous rural roads of Virginia's wine country. Visit two forward-thinking wineries and eat incredible locally sourced food. Learn about what ecological agriculture means, and walk the vineyards alongside sheep and cattle, with your sommelier-guide.
Head to the back of the reservoir parking lot and look for the big van with lots of bikes on it!
We will each introduce ourselves, then get fitted to our bikes, and conduct a quick safety talk. Then we're off!
Enjoy your first section of cycling: a tranquil ride past vast horse farms with gorgeous regal barns and extended views up to the Blue Ridge Mountains & Shenandoah National Park. 5 miles.
Sit down to a private table overlooking the vineyards and learn from your guide how wine was made before "modern" techniques took over. Enjoy a robust snack time, sourced 100% from local Central Virginia producers.
Cycle your second section: classic Virginia countryside roads, with historical estates and painting-worthy pastoral landscapes flanking you on both sides! 13 miles.
Fill your belly & your soul with a big lunch spread of healthy, local food (not just another charcuterie board!). Wash it down with bottles of ecologically-grown white, rose, and red! At lunch your guide will serenade you with stories about the past, present, and future of growing grapes (and food in general!). After lunch we will take a guided stroll alongside sheep & cattle as we talk about what ecological agriculture means in a winery setting.
The end of a wonderful day! We will get you back at your car by 3:30, leaving you time to visit another winery (if you care to!). For those who took an Uber/Lyft/etc to the starting point, can get a complimentary shuttle back to their lodging in the downtown Charlottesville area.
