Outdoor Escape Game Trier: The Merchant's Gold

1 hour 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: German and 1 more

Trier is Germany's oldest city — and in this outdoor escape game, its old town becomes the playing field. You'll follow young Markus Aurelius into Roman Trier in the year 310 AD and help him uncover the secret surrounding his uncle, a wealthy merchant with a problem he won't confide to anyone.

Every puzzle is tied to a real location: you start at the Porta Nigra, follow the trail through the city centre and finish at the Imperial Baths. Along the way you'll learn things about Trier that aren't in any guidebook.

What makes this tour special: it was handwritten exclusively for Trier — no generic content that would work anywhere. There's no fixed start time and no guide. You begin whenever you like, set your own pace and can pause at any point. One access code covers the whole team, and everyone plays along on their own phone. No app to install — it all runs in the browser.

What's Included

What to expect

Welcome to a whole new way to explore Trier. Your self-guided outdoor escape game takes you through the real streets of Trier using your smartphone. The tour was handwritten exclusively for this city and this route—no AI, no copy-and-paste.

You’ll join Marcus Aurelius on a journey to the year 310 A.D. In the Roman metropolis of Augusta Treverorum, the young man receives a mysterious letter from his uncle, the wealthy merchant Gaius Magnus. What is he hiding? Decipher ancient messages and follow the clues to a mystery within walls that are nearly 2,000 years old.

The content is available in German and English. Compared to our other tours, the difficulty level is 1 out of 3—ideal for beginners. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and covers 1.3 km.

The process is very simple: Go to the starting point, start whenever you want, and take as many breaks as you like. Everyone plays together, each on their own phone. The tour runs right in your browser—no downloads, no account required, and you’re ready to play right away. It’s family-friendly and fully accessible.

We'll start at the Porta Nigra, and our destination is the Imperial Baths.
