Starting at the stunning futuristic Toronto City Hall, Irma will tell walkers the story of modern Toronto of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. She will talk about the international architects that came here, plus some of the local heroes. There will be about 12 stops along the way, and sometimes there will be admission into interiors… But that will change with each tour. Irma will also discuss heritage architecture from Toronto’s earlier Victorian and Edwardian days. Because Irma is a drag queen, this is not your usual egghead architecture tour! It is full of silliness, sassiness, fun, and will be unlike anything you have ever experienced before. When possible, Irma will discuss LGBTQ people who had an influence, including landscape, architect Claude Cormier.
Irma will be standing in front of the first T of the giant Toronto sign in Nathan Phillips Square waiting for all of you lovelies.
Irma will tell walkers about how Mies van der Rohe came to Toronto, and the banking towers that followed because of it.
Irma will describe the story of the international competition in 1958.
Irma will tell people the story of Peter Dickinson arriving from England in 1951.
