Explore the rich history of Port wine on a charming 2h30 walk tour of wines. This immersive experience combines the informative comments of a local Guide, covering the importance of the Douro River and the region’s wine traditions.
The tour includes a visit to a wine cellar, where you will learn about the production and aging processes, followed by a visit to a boutique bottler to discover other distinctive premium wines. Each stop includes tasting of 5 different wines, providing a complete introduction to the various flavors of the region.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
We find ourselves at the main entrance of the Cálem Bodega, next to the riverside area of Villa Nova de Gaia, facing the river Douro and near the wine cellars of Porto. The Guide will be there at the scheduled time to receive the group, (assuring a blue umbrella.)
What to expect
The activity begins at Caves Cálem, where the Guide welcomes the group and makes a brief introduction to the history of the Porto wine and its connection to Gaia, the river Douro and the city of Porto. Next, participants will visit a Porto wine cellar and a boutique wine house, where they will learn about the process of production, aging and storage in wooden pipes, ending with a taste of selected premium wines.
During the whole experience, the environment will be relaxed and friendly, with time to ask questions, take photos and learn more about one of the region’s most important traditions
