A typical guided experience to Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum often begins directly from your hotel in Kraków, where a driver meets you in a shared minivan. The drive is about 1.5h, giving travelers time to settle in before the visit begins. On reaching Auschwitz I, the group is met by a licensed guide and moves through a controlled entry process. You’ll walk through the original brick barracks, exhibition rooms filled with preserved artifacts and documents, and the notorious entrance gate. Afterwards, the same minivan takes you a few minutes away to Auschwitz II–Birkenau. Here, the scale changes dramatically: open fields, endless rows of barracks ruins, watchtowers, and the railway ramp where deportation trains arrived. Visitors typically walk along the tracks and pause at memorial areas while the guide explains the extermination process and the camp’s expansion. At the end of the visit, the group returns by minivan back to Kraków.
