Lyon wine tasting and pétanque at the Tabareau Winery

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English and 1 more

Here, no frozen tasting or formatted speech. Sommelier Lyonnais by birth, your host gives you a real method to look, smell and analyze a wine, understand the pairings and choose a bottle with confidence, whether in the restaurant or at home. To make the moment even more lively, make room for pétanque, while one team plays, the other continues the tasting, and each alternates between balls and glass in hand. This mix of learning and play, in an authentic neighborhood cellar of the Plateau de la Croix-Rousse, creates a relaxed and warm atmosphere not found in standardized tourist tastings. A real Lyon break, thought like a good afternoon with friends.

What to expect

Your afternoon begins at Cave Tabareau, one of Lyon’s most beloved and authentic wineries, where your sommelier welcomes you for a friendly outdoor experience that combines wine discovery with the most French of all traditions: pétanque.

First, introduction to the tasting method: how to look, smell and taste a wine with the right reflexes. Then place to the pétanque, the group divides in two. While one team leads the way, the other pursues the tasting and deepens the food and wine pairings, with simple tips and methods to never be lost in front of a menu again at the restaurant or when choosing a bottle at home. The teams alternate, between balls and glass in hand, in the atmosphere of the Plateau de la Croix-Rousse.

Simple and authentically local, this is exactly how Lyonnais spend a good afternoon.
