    Colosseum

    The Colosseum arena floor was the central wooden platform where gladiatorial combats, animal hunts, and public spectacles took place. It was covered with sand, which helped absorb blood and provided traction during fights. Beneath the floor was the hypogeum, a complex underground network of tunnels, chambers, lifts, and cages used to bring gladiators, animals, and scenery into the arena.
