What's Included
Meeting and pickup
Meeting point: Catholic Church (Mesologiou 24). Park at Four Martyrs or Port & walk 10 mins into Old Town. From Rimondi Fountain, turn left for 5 steps, then right. Your host will wait outside the entrance holding a paint brush. From there, we walk 5 mins to our workshop space!
What to expect
1) Introduction to Iconography
We start with a brief overview of the essential historical elements of Byzantine Iconography, the traditional materials used, and their deep symbolism.
2) Sketching the Icon
We begin by sketching the "Angel of the Lord" onto a specially prepared canvas surface. Your creative journey starts here!
3) Expert Guidance
Your instructor guides you through every step of the egg tempera technique.
4) Applying the First Layers & Cretan Break
As we apply the base colors, it’s time for a short break. Enjoy authentic Cretan meze paired with local wine or raki.
5) Take Your Masterpiece Home
We complete the icon step-by-step, explaining each stage of the technical process. Your beautiful, handmade icon is now ready to travel back home with you!
