Before you arrive, you'll fill in a short survey about your skin type, concerns, and your preferences. I research and scout products against your answers in advance, so on the day we're working from a shortlist I've already made for you.

We meet in Shinjuku and spend 90 to 120 minutes in 1-2 stores. Japanese beauty stores are far bigger than what you're used to at home, everything is labelled in Japanese, and most product lines have four or five near-identical bottles side by side: same brand, same packaging, different coloured cap, completely different skin type.

So I read the labels for you, tell you which version is the one for your skin, and how it goes on and holds up in the climate back home. We swatch and test as we go, and I'll happily tell you when something popular isn't right for you. Nothing goes in your basket untried!
