Open to all skill levels, this experience invites you to explore the vibrant night sky with your DSLR, mirrorless camera, or smartphone. Learn essential techniques for photographing the stars, from understanding moon phases to camera settings that work in the dark. Enjoy shooting in picturesque locations along the coast, such as Southport and Oak Island. With tripods provided, you'll leave with the knowledge to create your own stunning night sky images, and an optional Lightroom editing session ensures you depart with a finished Milky Way masterpiece.

Our meeting location will change depending on the coastal community you'd like to shoot. I will contact you the day of your activity to confirm the exact meeting location and time.

What to expect

We will meet at a central location for bathroom and coffee/snack needs. From there, we'll travel to the coastal community you'd like to shoot. (I'm more than happy to offer suggestions if you'd like). Once there, I'll describe the basics of astrophotography while we wait for our eyes to adjust for the darkness. When ready, I'll coach you through setting your camera/phone to capture Milky Way shots, and assist and coach where needed throughout the shoot. When we're done shooting, I'll coach you through the editing process so you have a special image of the Milky Way that you've shot and edited.
