Roman Ruins of Bobadela Step back nearly 2,000 years and discover one of Portugal's most remarkable Roman archaeological sites. The Roman Ruins of Bobadela, located in the charming village of Bobadela near Oliveira do Hospital, are the remains of an important Roman city founded during the reign of Emperor Augustus in the 1st century AD. Visitors can explore the impressive Monumental Arch, the remains of the ancient forum, and one of Portugal's rare Roman amphitheatres, where gladiator games and public spectacles once entertained the city's inhabitants. Inscriptions, sculptures, and other archaeological discoveries reveal the significance of this once-thriving settlement, known in Roman times as the Splendidissima Civitas ("Most Splendid City"). Today, the ruins are integrated into the heart of the picturesque village, offering a unique opportunity to experience Roman history in an authentic setting. Recognized as a National Monument.
