Join a friendly, beginner-friendly Japanese calligraphy workshop in Asakusa, led by a certified master of both calligraphy and traditional Japanese dance.
Learn essential brush techniques while discovering the history, meanings, and cultural stories behind Japanese calligraphy. More than simply writing characters, this experience offers a relaxed and personal introduction to Japanese culture.
After the workshop, you may find that the Japanese characters you see on street signs, shop curtains, and temples around the city look a little different—each one carrying a story you can now begin to recognize.
Instruction is provided in English, all materials are included, and you will take home your own calligraphy artwork as a meaningful souvenir.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
Venue address will be sent after booking. Reply to confirm and come directly there. If no reply, meet me 10 min before at the Koban (Police Box) beside Kaminarimon Gate. Venue is a 2–10 min walk. If lost, message me via Viator.
What to expect
In this beginner-friendly 1.5-hour experience, you will learn basic brush techniques and practice a curated selection of essential Japanese characters. The specific characters will be revealed on the day, along with their meanings and cultural stories.
More than a writing class, this is a relaxed and welcoming introduction to Japanese culture. As you create your artwork, your instructor will share the history, traditions, and stories behind Japanese calligraphy and culture.
No experience is needed. All materials are provided, and the lesson is conducted in English. Take home your finished calligraphy artwork as a memorable souvenir.
