The main highlight of the experience is seeing wild Asian elephants moving freely in their natural environment. If you visit during the dry season, you may have the chance to witness the famous Elephant Gathering, where large numbers of elephants come together near the Minneriya Tank. As you explore the park, keep your eyes open for other wildlife such as sambar deer, wild buffalo, monkeys, and many beautiful bird species including painted storks and cormorants. With some luck, you may even spot a leopard hiding in the wilderness.
