    Start with a panoramic view from the Mirador de Zipaquirá, where you'll learn about the town's Muisca origins and the history of salt — the resource that built this city. From there, walk to Plaza de la Independencia, the historic heart of Zipaquirá and traditionally the town's main gathering place. Surrounded by colonial and republican architecture, this plaza was once walked by Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel García Márquez.

    Continue to Plaza de los Comuneros — the town's main square, where ordinary merchants and farmers once rose up against Spanish colonial taxes in 1781. Take in the Diocesan Cathedral and the Municipal Palace, still standing as symbols of the religious and political power that shaped this era.
