Travel south toward the edge of the valley to visit the peaceful Bodbe Monastery complex. Nestled among towering cypress trees, this holy pilgrimage site houses the tomb and relics of Saint Nino, the 4th-century female evangelist who successfully converted Georgia to Christianity.
Spend the late afternoon exploring the romantic, 18th-century hilltop town of Sighnaghi. Take a guided walk along the massive, preserved medieval stone fortification walls, climb the ancient watchtowers for jaw-dropping views over the Alazani Valley, and stroll past cobblestone streets lined with pastel Italianate balconies.
The Sighnaghi Wall—often dubbed the "Great Wall of Georgia"—is a massive 18th-century stone fortification that encircles the hilltop town of Sighnaghi. Spanning roughly 4.5 kilometers along the mountain ridges, it was built by King Erekle II as a grand defensive refuge to protect the local population from frequent tribal raids. The wall features 23 defensive watchtowers, each built and defended by a specific neighboring village, along with 6 main arched gateways. Today, visitors can walk along the restored stone battlements to experience the most iconic panoramic views in Kakheti, looking out across the vast Alazani Valley toward the snow-capped peaks of the Greater Caucasus Mountains.
The Giant Plane Tree of Telavi is one of Georgia's oldest, largest, and most cherished living natural monuments. It stands as the unofficial mascot and proud centerpiece of Telavi's historic downtown.
