No prior experience needed we guide you step by step, from practicing in calm shallow water to your first guided reef dive in Costa Maya, perfect if you're arriving by cruise and want a memorable experience in just a few hours.

Upon arrival at Mahahual Port, taxis are available to take you directly to the town center. We will meet at Bucaneros Dive Center del Caribe, in downtown Mahahual. The taxi from the port is not included. Please arrive 15 minutes early. We look forward to seeing you!

What to expect
When you arrive at the Bucaneros del Caribe dive center in Mahahual, your certified instructor will review basic health information with you and answer any questions before getting started.
Next, you'll get a full briefing where the instructor explains how the scuba equipment works, how to breathe through the regulator, how to equalize the pressure in your ears, and the basic hand signals used underwater.
Before heading to the reef, you'll practice in a calm, shallow-water area to get comfortable with breathing, the equipment, and the feeling of being underwater — always guided by your instructor.
Once the group is ready, you'll do a guided dive of about 30 to 40 minutes at a beginner-friendly spot on the Mahahual reef, where you can spot coral, tropical fish, and other Caribbean marine species, depending on sea conditions that day.
Afterward, you'll head back to the dive center to remove your gear. Your instructor will debrief with you about the experience and can guide you on how to continue your training with an SDI certification course if you'd like to keep diving.
