The tour starts in Cathedral Square at the Max statue, the monument to King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria. You will find the meeting point directly on the large square in front of St. Stephen's Cathedral, on the western side of the cathedral — the side with two towers. The statue is clearly visible in the middle of Cathedral Square. Your guide will be waiting there for the start of the tour. Please be at the meeting point a few minutes before the start so that the tour can start on time.
We will be happy to pick you up at the booked start time at the main entrance or in the lobby of your hotel. Pick-up is possible from any hotel in Passau's old town. Upon request, we will also take you back to your hotel after the tour.
In the colourful Höllgasse you will discover one of the most charming alleys of Passau's old town. Between historic houses and small studios you will learn more about their special history and how much floodwaters of the past centuries have shaped life in Passau.
At Rathausplatz you will discover the ornate paintings on the facade of the Old Town Hall and a very special fountain. You will also learn what Empress Sissi has in common with this place. Above the roofs rises the Veste Oberhaus, from which the Passau prince-bishops once ruled the city.
At Innkai you can enjoy one of Passau's most beautiful views of the Inn, the opposite Austria and the Mariahilf pilgrimage church. Here you can learn more about the importance of the river for the city – and look forward to a little surprise.
In Zinngießergasse you will discover the narrowest and most hidden streets of Passau's old town. Between the historic houses you will learn more about the former craftsmanship in the city and discover exciting details that are otherwise easy to pass.
At Residenzplatz you will experience one of Passau's most beautiful Baroque squares. You will discover the magnificent facades of the former prince-bishop's residence, learn more about the history of the bishops of Passau and take a look at the impressive Wittelsbach fountain with its numerous symbolic figures.
In St. Stephen's Cathedral you will discover one of the largest cathedral organs in the world, the impressive high altar and the magnificent Baroque frescoes. You will learn more about the history of the cathedral and the significance of its most important works of art.
