Tallinn Bay is a deepwater, naturally protected bay that has served for centuries as Estonia’s primary maritime hub and a strategic gateway to the Baltic Sea. Key Historical Highlights: Hanseatic Trading Post (13th–16th c.): Following the Danish arrival in 1219, the harbor of Reval (now Tallinn) became a critical trading port for the Hanseatic League. Naval Stronghold (18th–19th c.): Under Peter the Great, the bay was converted into a key base for the Russian Imperial Baltic Fleet, hosting the Battle of Reval against the Swedish navy in 1790. 1980 Olympic Games: The bay hosted the Sailing Regatta for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, prompting the construction of the Pirita Yachting Centre. Today, Tallinn Bay seamlessly blends a busy commercial passenger port with vibrant leisure hubs and historic shipyard districts like Noblessner.
