Discover the Palatinate where the German Wine Route begins: on a personal wine hike through the vineyards of Schweigen-Rechtenbach.
On the first German wine trail, you will learn how viticulture, landscape, and history have shaped this special region. Your guide Thorsten Eiselstein is Culture and Wine Ambassador of the Palatinate and a recognized consultant for German Wine (DWI).
During the approximately two-hour tour, you will taste four selected wines from winemakers in Schweigen-Rechtenbach and get to know the Palatine wine world right where their wines are made.
A relaxed combination of wine hiking, wine tasting, regional history, and authentic Palatine way of life.

We are starting at the German Wine Gate. Here begins not only our wine hike, but also the German Wine Route – one of Germany's most beautiful holiday and gourmet routes. You will learn right at the beginning of our tour what the German Weintor has to do with the history of Pfalz wine.

In the 19th century, a tiny insect brought European viticulture to the brink of disaster: the phylloxera. How could this small animal threaten entire wine regions - and why has European viticulture not collapsed? We will get to the bottom of these questions at this station.

At the Little Wine Gate, an impressive view opens up over the wine landscape of the Southern Palatinate, stretching across to the Black Forest on the other side of the Rhine plain. But what makes Pfalz wine and its wine villages so special? We take a look at landscape, climate, and viticulture – naturally without enjoying a good glass of Palatinate wine.
