    Bo-kaap

Cape Town Muslim Quarter, on the slopes of Signal Hill on the edge of the city center. The most colorful in the city: steep cobbled streets, "cube" houses from the 18th-19th centuries painted in vibrant hues, minarets of about ten mosques (including the Auwal, the first in South Africa). Born around 1780; after the abolition of slavery (1834) former Muslim slaves from the East Indies settled there, the so-called "Cape Malay". To see: Bo-Kaap Museum (71 Wale St), spices at Atlas Trading Company, Cape Malay curry. Walking and cooking tours start from the museum.

    Company's Gardens

Green oasis in the heart of downtown Cape Town, perfect for a relaxing walk. Tree-lined avenues and manicured lawns, squirrels approaching, a pond with fish and a aviary. You will see the saffron pear, the oldest cultivated tree in South Africa, and enjoy splendid views of Table Mountain. All around, the city's best museums and monuments: the South African National Gallery, the Slave Lodge, the Gothic cathedral of St George, and the Parliament buildings. An outdoor coffee invites a break among the greenery.

You will walk in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, founded in 1913 and dedicated only to South African indigenous plants. You will see the fynbos and proteas in bloom, the avenue of camphor trees from 1898, the Cycad Amphitheatre with its prehistoric cycads, and the remains of the wild almond hedge planted by Van Riebeeck in 1660, the first colonial boundary of the Cape. You will cross the Boomslang, the suspended walkway between the treetops, for a view of the mountain and False Bay. You will listen to the botanical and colonial history of the Cape. You will see the Cape Dutch style manor house with its white pediment, the Cloete Cellar decorated with a frieze carved by Anton Anreith, and the vineyards climbing towards Constantiaberg. You will discover the history of Grand Constance, the sweet wine loved by the European courts and requested by Napoleon in exile on Elba, and that of the enslaved labor on which the estate was built.
