What to expect

Experience authentic Kyoto culture in a traditional machiya in the heart of Kyoto. Enjoy Japanese calligraphy, tea ceremony, and special traditional kimonos in a private setting.

Begin with Japanese calligraphy in your own clothes. Practice basic kaisho strokes, choose a kanji, learn its meaning, and express it on an art board. Your finished piece is presented in a foldable hanging-scroll style case.

Next, change into a formal kimono and experience a traditional tea ceremony. Learn the meaning behind the room’s decorations, watch the graceful procedures, then whisk your own bowl of matcha and enjoy it with a seasonal sweet. Discover the Japanese aesthetic of ma—the beauty of space and pause. Chairs are available in the tea room for comfort.

Finally, enjoy a memorable photo session wearing a luxurious bridal uchikake or samurai-style hakama.
