Aigues-Mortes attracts visitors every year convinced of knowing its history: Saint Louis who died of the plague, the sea at the foot of the ramparts, the Templars locked in the Tour de Constance. None of these three statements is correct. This visit goes against the conventional tours: rather than listing dates, it dismantles preconceived notions one by one to reveal a history often more surprising than the legend. The guide is a contributor who has been in the city for more than twenty years, who has dedicated two books to it. The route takes the inner-city alleys and runs along the base of the ramparts; it does not include the climb on the battlement path or the interior of the Tour de Constance, which are visited separately.
