Island Hills Station Private Nature Park 3-Day Self-Guided Hike

3 days (approximately)

Hike in a rugged back country setting without a heavy pack. Daily luggage transfers mean you only need to carry your lunch and the trails are designed to showcase huge mountain scenery without being over-strenous. The track suits those with medium fitness and capabilty, it is not suitable to unfit people or those carrying injuries. However there is always a way out if you feel unwell and you can be transported to the next camp. The Island Hills Station hosts Shaun and Haley are genuine rural kiwi's from farming background, they will get to know you and look after your wellbeing with hand hald radio communications for each group, evening weather updates and 24 hour contact. Those hot showers each day are a real treat!

What's Included

This is a self catered option you must bring your own meals, snacks, drinks. BBQ's, gas cooking and kitchen facilities onsite. Cooler bin daily transfers and onsite fridges.

Meeting point

Follow Tekoa Road to its end, signs say Island Hills Track. It is accessible by 2 wheel drive, the final 10km is gravel road and a single lane suspension bridge which is useable by ordinary 2wd vehicles, utes and small vans up to 3.5 tonnes gross. Large campers make contact in advance for pick up.

What to expect

Self drive or book a shuttle service to arrive on the evening of your booking date anytime after 5:30pm. Enjoy a meal along the way at a winery or pub or choose our hosted BBQ and 4wd tour.
Relax in zero internet tranquility, visit the farm museum or stretch the legs on the 4km afternoon farm walk.
Night One stay in the historic farm Cookhouse, choose twin share or bunk room. Lower fitted sheet, pillow and pillow case provided, bring your own sleeping bag and towel or hire these onsite.
Day One starts with a 20min 4wd ride out to the trail head. Hike 11km 4-6 hours (589m elevation gain) Lunch shelter with hot water and kettle along the way.
Night Two - Valley Camp (2 huts, shared bunk rooms with partitioning curtains for added privacy) Your luggage will be waiting for your arrival.
Day Two, 3.5-4 hour hike through a protected wilderness park fore 9km (590m elevation gain) Stop at the half way lunch shelter and later arrive at Bush Hut to find your lugagge has magically beaten you there!
Night Three, historic log cabin shared 8 bunk room, plus 3 twin share glamping tents.
Day Three, an easy 2-3 hour hike over 9.5 km of farmland (396m elevation gain) back to the car park. Depart 1pm.
