Under expert guidance, learn the essentials of cutting, sewing, and finishing your unique piece, regardless of your prior sewing experience. This immersive experience fosters connections and allows you to take home a personalized memento of Rwanda, reflecting your creativity and the rich cultural heritage of the region.

What to expect

Engage in a creative journey at the ITARA workshop, where Rwandan craftsmanship comes alive. Paired with a skilled artisan, you’ll explore the art of handmade souvenir creation, choosing from a variety of projects: pouch, bow-tie, hair-tie, keychain or bookmark. Under expert guidance, learn the essentials of cutting, sewing, and finishing your unique piece, regardless of your prior sewing experience. This immersive experience fosters connections and allows you to take home a personalized memento of Rwanda, reflecting your creativity and the rich cultural heritage of the region.

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn a few Kinyarwanda words as you interact with our artisans.

To wrap up the experience, artisans and visitors come together for a lively community dance known as *umudiho*. You’ll dance along to popular songs such as *Amahoro Meza* and *Si Umuhemu*, one of Rwanda’s beloved Christian dance songs by artist Richard Nick Ngendahayo.
