Day 1: departure: 8:30 am Jungle Welcome and Night Adventure Upon your arrival in Iquitos—whether at the airport or your hotel—we will meet you to begin the experience. We will travel by private vehicle to the town of Nauta, where we will board a motorboat for a journey of approximately two and a half hours to the Yarapa River Communal Reserve. Along the way, you will witness the birth of the majestic Amazon River at the confluence of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers. As we travel, keep an eye out for pink and gray dolphins, as well as various tropical birds. Enjoy a traditional lunch on board while immersed in the surrounding Amazonian landscape. Upon arrival at the reserve, we will set out in search of sloths and iguanas. Afterward, we will set up camp deep within the jungle. At night, a fascinating hike will take you to explore the habitat of tarantulas, scorpions, and bullfrogs, with the chance to spot pacas and agoutis. Dinner and overnight stay in tents or hand-built shelters.
Day 2: Sunrise canoe trip and survival techniques We will start the day by traveling along the river in a canoe, where you will have the opportunity to observe macaws, herons, kingfishers, and prehistoric-looking birds in their natural habitat. After breakfast, we will head out in search of various primate species, such as howler monkeys, capuchins, and uakaris, before continuing to the next campsite. After lunch, we will hike to a *cocha* (lagoon), where we will discover giant trees and learn about medicinal plants and their traditional uses. We will also practice survival techniques, such as foraging for wild food, sourcing water from plants, and navigating the jungle. Along the way, we will admire the impressive *Victoria regia*: the majestic giant water lilies of the Amazon. Dinner at the campsite. At night, we will embark on a canoe expedition to spot caimans and nocturnal birds. With a bit of luck, we might even encounter anacondas. Overnight at the campsite.
Day 3: Wildlife Encounters and Forest Giants The day begins with a canoe expedition deep into the jungle—far from any native communities—to observe bird species found only in this remote region. Next, we will hike around a lagoon, looking for tracks or sightings of animals such as collared peccaries (jungle pigs) and capybaras. Afterwards, we will venture further into the forest to marvel at one of the Amazon's giants: a tree reaching over 65 meters in height. At night, we will embark on an exciting hike to search for night monkeys and—with a bit of luck—spot big cats like the jaguar along the riverbanks. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite.
Day 4: Morning Exploration and Water Fun Early in the morning, a second canoe excursion will allow us to discover new bird calls and look for river otters in their natural habitat. After breakfast, we will enjoy a fishing session to catch piranhas and other species. If you wish, you can taste your catch at lunch. Before departing, you will have time to relax and swim in the refreshing waters of the Yarapa River—using floating noodles and chairs—while dolphins swim around you. In the afternoon, we will head back to Nauta and then transfer to the city of Iquitos, bringing this incredible Amazon adventure to a close. Tour ends at 6:00 PM.
