This entrance to Chapultepec Park is on Reforma Ave., near the Four Seasons hotel. It is a large gate flanked by 2 big statues of lions.
We end at this park in the center of Condesa neighborhood
We enter Chapultepec Park from the Puerta de los Leones. As we walk through the park, we will pass this monument to the young military cadets who died during the Mexico-US War of 1847
We will walk through the park and up the long, paved hill that leads to the Castle of Chapultepec. The hill itself was a sacred place from prehispanic time, and during the colonial period the castle was built as a home for Emperor Maximilian and Queen Carlota. After Independence it was used as a military academy, the presidential residence, and finally became the National Museum of History. In addition to the lovely building and garden area, the Castillo is also home to numerous murals from Mexican muralists such as Orozco, O'Gorman, Gonzalez Camarena, Siquieros, and others.
We will take public transport from Chapultepec Park, just 2 stops on the Mexico City subway. From here we will walk throught Roma neighborhood, eventually crossing over into Condesa. We can also modify the route to be all walking (in this case the order would be switched: Chapultepec to Condesa to Roma). If you choose the private transport add-on, you would not use the subway. The time listed below includes walking through the park to get to the subway station, taking the subway, walking to the tip of Roma neighborhood. Lunch is typically taken in Roma neighborhood but can be taken wherever you prefer.
You will walk through Roma Norte neighborhood with your guide, learning the history of this turn-of-the century residential neighborhood. Plaza Luis Cabrera is the last historical site you will visit in Roma neighborhood.
As we continue through Roma neighborhood, we will visit the very popular Mercado Medellin where you can learn about Mexican food markets and admire the variety of fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses and other household goods offered there. If you would like to have lunch in the market, there are also some great prepared food stalls.
After Mercado Medellin we will cross over into Condesa neighborhood. Walking through this neighborhood with numerous art deco buildings, you will learn about this lush residential neighborhood created in what was previously a horse-racing track.
Our tour ends at Parque México, the social hub of Condesa neighborhood.
