A full-day trip in Italian from Edinburgh towards the county of Northumberland, to visit the outstanding castles of Bamburgh and Alnwick. Get ready to stroll along the sumptuous rooms of these English Castles, still inhabited by the aristocracy of Northumberland and prepare to enjoy the magic atmosphere of “Hogwarts School”.
• Cross the border into England and stroll along the streets of Berwick-upon-Tweed
• Take the chance to visit the impressive Castle of Bamburgh and uncover the mysteries that are still hidden behind his walls (optional)
• Live the magic of Harry Potter saga and take part in one of the broomstick training session offered in Alnwick Castle (optional)
* From November to March, the visit to Alnwick Castle will not be available. A stop at Lindisfarne (Holy Island), will be offered instead. We will in any case stop in Alnwick village for lunch.
We depart from 190 High Street, Edinburgh, driving through the Lowlands toward the English border. Our first stop is Berwick-upon-Tweed, England’s northernmost town, where you can admire its castle ruins, medieval walls, and river views while enjoying a quick coffee. WINTER ITINERARY NOTE: From Oct 22 to late March 2027, Alnwick Castle is closed and replaced by Lindisfarne (Holy Island). Accessible via a tidal causeway, you can explore its historic abbey, 16th-century castle, and coastal views (stop order depends on tides). Lunch will still be in Alnwick town. When open, Alnwick Castle (Hogwarts in Harry Potter) lets you explore the Duke of Northumberland’s residence, gardens, and Europe's largest treehouse. Entry (£19.50) is cash only. Next, we visit Bamburgh Castle, set over a white sand beach and featured in films like El Cid and Robin Hood. Entry (£9.50) is card only. Finally, we head back to Edinburgh, finishing on Hanover Street.
