While Los Cabos is famous for its beaches and marine life, the Sierra de la Laguna reveals a very different side of Baja California Sur. Protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, these mountains capture seasonal rainfall that feeds freshwater springs, streams, and natural pools throughout the Santiago region.

The oasis at Sol de Mayo exists because water flowing from the mountains sustains a unique ecosystem within an otherwise arid desert landscape. Over millions of years, flowing water carved the canyon’s rock formations, creating the pools, waterfalls, and natural pathways visitors explore today.

What makes this private experience unique is the opportunity to enjoy these landscapes at a comfortable pace. Whether swimming beneath the waterfall, exploring the canyon, learning about local history, or simply taking in the scenery, your guide can adapt the experience to your group, offering a deeper connection to the natural beauty that exists beyond the coastline of Los Cabos.

What to expect

Discover a side of Baja California Sur that many visitors never see as you leave the coastline behind and journey into the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna. This private hiking experience leads to the Santiago region, where desert landscapes transform into freshwater pools, canyon walls, and the beautiful Sol de Mayo waterfall.

After a scenic drive through ranching communities and open Baja terrain, explore canyon trails with your private guide, enjoying time to hike, swim, relax, and take in the peaceful surroundings. The contrast between the desert and this hidden oasis creates a unique environment rarely associated with Los Cabos.

Following your time at the waterfall, enjoy a traditional Baja-style lunch at Rancho Ecológico Sol de Mayo before a brief stop at the Tropic of Cancer monument. Combining hiking, swimming, local culture, scenic landscapes, and private guiding, this experience offers an authentic look at Baja California Sur beyond its beaches.
