## Day 1: Sani Pass, Lesotho Highlands & Katse Dam Your adventure begins with an early departure from Underberg as we ascend the legendary Sani Pass, one of Africa’s most spectacular mountain roads. Travelling in a specially equipped 4×4 vehicle, you'll climb through dramatic switchbacks and rugged mountain terrain while enjoying breathtaking views of the Southern Drakensberg. After crossing into Lesotho, the "Kingdom in the Sky," we continue through remote highland landscapes where rolling grasslands, mountain villages, and winding roads showcase the country's remarkable beauty. Along the way, enjoy refreshments above the clouds before arriving at the magnificent Katse Dam, one of Africa's largest engineering achievements. After lunch overlooking the dam and surrounding mountains, we continue through Lesotho's scenic interior before arriving in Hlotse for the evening. This first day provides an unforgettable introduction to Lesotho's landscapes, people, and mountain culture.
After breakfast, we journey deeper into the Mountain Kingdom, focusing on the people, traditions, and history that make Lesotho such a fascinating destination. Visit the Leribe Mohair Craft Centre to learn about one of Lesotho's most important industries before exploring the remarkable Ha Kome Cave Dwellings, where families once sought refuge and where descendants still maintain a connection to this unique heritage. Continue to historic Thaba Bosiu, the mountain fortress of King Moshoeshoe I and the birthplace of the Basotho nation. Throughout the day, you'll travel through picturesque farmlands, traditional villages, and mountain scenery while gaining a deeper understanding of Basotho culture. A traditional Basotho blanket presentation offers fascinating insight into local customs, symbolism, and identity. By late afternoon, arrive in Semonkong, where horses, donkeys, and livestock still form part of everyday life in this remote mountain settlement.
Your final day begins in the spectacular highlands surrounding Semonkong, home to the famous Maletsunyane Falls. Enjoy a guided hike to viewpoints overlooking one of the world's highest single-drop waterfalls, or choose an optional Basotho pony experience for a truly authentic mountain adventure. Standing above the dramatic gorge, you'll appreciate the scale and beauty of one of Lesotho's most iconic natural landmarks. From here, we travel through some of the country's most remote and breathtaking mountain landscapes, crossing dramatic passes and passing traditional villages rarely visited by tourists. After a scenic picnic lunch overlooking the Southern Drakensberg region, we continue towards the Qacha's Nek border before re-entering South Africa. Arriving back in Underberg during the late afternoon, you'll leave with unforgettable memories of Lesotho's landscapes, culture, and warm hospitality.
