Deoria Tal Lake
Deoria Tal is a pristine high-altitude lake famous for its crystal-clear reflections of the majestic Chaukhamba peaks. Located at an altitude of around 2,438 meters (7,999 ft). The lake is reached through an easy 2.5–3 km trek from Sari Village near Ukhimath. The trail passes through charming Himalayan forests filled with rhododendrons and oak trees, offering a peaceful escape into nature. On clear mornings, visitors can witness stunning reflections of snow-covered peaks like Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, Neelkanth, and Kalanag mirrored on the calm waters of the lake. Deoria Tal also holds deep mythological significance in Hindu tradition. According to legends from the Mahabharata, this is believed to be the place where Yaksha questioned Yudhishthira during the famous “Yaksha Prashna” episode. The lake is considered sacred, and local stories say that the gods once bathed in its waters, giving the lake its name.

Highlights: Beautiful rolling meadows filled by dense oak and rhododendron forests. Spectacular Himalayan views of Chaukhamba, Kedarnath Peak, Kedar Dome, Nilkantha, and other snow-covered summits. A great site for birdwatchers, with many Himalayan and migratory bird species. Best visited in March–April for blooming rhododendrons and September–November for crystal-clear mountain views. Usually visited on the Deoria Tal – Rohini Bugyal – Chopta trek, offering a peaceful camping experience away from crowded trails of the Uttarakhand

Tungnath Temple

Chandrashila Temple, located at the summit of Chandrashila Peak above Chopta, is a revered Himalayan shrine offering one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints in Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of around 3,690 meters, the temple holds deep spiritual significance, with legends linking the peak to Lord Rama’s meditation after defeating Ravana. The drive from Sari Village to Rishikesh via Dhari Devi Temple and Devprayag covers a significant distance (approximately 200 km) and involves mountainous roads, making it a full-day itinerary. Morning Departure from Sari Begin your journey early (around 7:00 AM) from Sari Village (the base for Deoria Tal trek).
